| On their second day the Pirsigs and Sutherlands stopped in Ellendale for breakfast. In the town of Hague, North Dakota, they stopped for gas. In order to cross the Missouri in 1968, they had to drop down into South Dakota and cross the state line. In the town of Herreid, Pirsig notes that a change is in the land. A few miles past Herreid, they came in view of the Missouri River. They stopped in Mobridge and had a lunch of hamburgers and malteds at an A&W place. After they ate, they rode down the hill and clanked onto the bridge, watching the river through the girders rhythmically moving by. They spent their second night near Lemmon where they heard about Shadehill Reservoir campground to the south. | ||
